We LOVE Florida & have been here for 3 years & we just had a daughter this year – so we want to stay for atleast 3 to 4 more years before she will be of school age –
The only reason we are considering moving is because we want to BUY our OWN home in 3 to 4 years – & property taxes in Florida are so outrageous – We feel like buying a house here would possibly put us in a struggle –
My Fiance’ is about to get his Marine Engineering Liscence in 07- once he does that – he can pretty much get a job wherever- He would prefer to move us somewhere that Marine Jobs are abundant – (Ports)
My folks live in North Alabama & the distance from Florida is too much for them to bare – So we want to live somewhere that will be closer to them – We are thinking of S.Carolina or Georgia – but not sure which one would suit us – We are an open minded interacial couple – Even though its the South we are looking for a city that is Diverse, tons of Job Ops, & Great to raise kids

I am looking to relocate, I’m not a hefty earner. I’m a teacher , but I’d like to be able to obtain at least a 2-3 bedroom rural home with garage for under $1000 a month. The lower the better. I’ve been looking at different states. Went down to Texas and it was too congested to me. Housing seemed very small for such a big state. Florida and Utah seems out of my league. Georgia and North Carolina seem ok. Perhaps North dakota was the cheapest. I’deally I’d like a warm climate, but at this point I just want a job and place I can afford and call home.

Or, selling the property with just the guest cottage on site (if I move).

If I buy the land (in subdivision/underground utilities, city water, paved roads, etc.), I want to know:

1) Would it really save me money to go this route and have the guest cottage built and not the main house?

2) Could such a cottage be built decently (pref brick/wood floors/ 1 bedroom/ 1.5 bath w. loft & deck) for less than $100K?
